AROUND THE CAMPFIRE

Beaver Creek

At Beaver Creek Bible Camp we love to give away Bibles. Thank you, LifeLight, for making this possible.

One counsellor came and asked me how many Bibles he could give; his whole cabin, seven campers, all wanted one. This is a common occurrence, and it is a great joy to give Bibles to those who don't have one

One boy got his new Bible and started reading right away, starting at the beginning. By evening he was reading the story of Moses to all the kids in his cabin – a fair amount of reading! And the best part of it was that he was excited about what he was reading and getting the other campers excited as well.

It was recreation time, where all the kids are divided into teams and compete in a variety of games. (All the campers are involved.) A little girl came running to me and asked if she could skip rec that day. I was about to give my speech about how all campers participate, when I paused and asked her why. She told me that she was enjoying reading her new Bible so much that she wanted to lie on the trampoline and read during rec. She would rather read the Bible than play games! Needless to say, I let her skip rec so she could read the Word.

Silver Bay

This was *Billy's third year at Silver Bay Bible Camp. He is a very loving little boy and had won his way into many of our hearts over the years.

Billy has ADHD and was on seven Ritalin pills a day. He was an angry boy and took out his frustration on other kids. One of our counsellors took it upon himself to really reach out to Billy. They spent countless hours together: talking, boating, building and just hanging out.

On Wednesday night Billy asked the counsellor if he could help him become a Christian, and the counsellor led him to the Lord. The counsellor gave Billy a copy of the How to Find God New Testament. Billy was thrilled and was very proud of his Bible!

That night, around 12:30, Billy and his counsellor came to our room; Billy was very upset. He told us that he knew he was saved but he just couldn't help being bad sometimes, and he was really sorry and wished he could stop. We prayed with him and told him that Jesus was with him and that he could go to Him with all his worries and fears.

There were many tears when Billy left the camp on Friday. Billy is just one of many children who come to camp longing to have someone spend time with them and love them. There are many "Billys" in this world, and it is our responsibility and privilege to be part of their lives. *not his real name

Fisher Bay

Bible camp is a time of highs and lows, of tough times and times that are encouraging. That's what this summer was like. Some of the children and teens who came were from homes that are less than ideal. Many of the kids are very familiar with seeing alcohol and drug abuse, and some have experimented with these themselves. A lot of them have never been told that they are loved and have never heard that God loves them. Some have only heard the name of Jesus as a swear word. All of this creates many challenges at camp.

Rick had been at camp before, but each time he was sent home early because of behavioural problems. When Rick's mother called to register him for teen camp, I felt like saying no, but I said yes, because I know that even though Rick has problems, God still loves him. His mother admonished him to behave when she brought him to camp. Not only did Rick make it through the whole week of camp, he also accepted Christ as his Saviour. Praise the Lord!

Steeprock Bay

I was the speaker one week in July this summer at Steeprock Bay Bible Camp. We had fifty children attending that week.

When children accepted Chrst as their Saviour we offered them a New Testament: The LifeLight, New Believer's, or How to Find God from LifeLight Ministries.

One little boy accepted Christ early in the week. He couldn't read that well, so he would come and sit with me and read his Bible instead of going to archery or craft class. Throughout the week more and more campers were found in their bunks in the evening reading their new Bibles. It was really neat to see children hungering to know God's Word.

A couple of the counsellors started using the teaching helps in the New Believer's NT to explain basic Christian concepts to their campers in addition to their regular devotional materials.

Thank you so much for providing these materials.

AMASA

AMASA is an outreach to the physically and mentally challenged and is owned and operated by CSSM Ministries in Surrey, BC. AMASA provides integrated camps for children, as well as respite camps for those with higher needs or those who have multiple challenges. They also have four summer camps for mentally challenged adults and retreats for physically challenged adults.

LifeLight provided them with a number of Graphic Bibles, as well as copies of The LifeLight New Testament. These Bibles were very much appreciated by the campers. One camper was given a Graphic Bible on Wednesday and carried it with him for the rest of the week, wherever he went When it came time to pack to go home, he refused to put the Bible in his suitcase, saying, "I want it with me at all times."
