Do you have the map?

Pilgrims in a Foreign Land
Stan Schroeder

All of us are on a journey. All of us are pilgrims on a journey in a foreign land, called by God to a great purpose. Some of us have maps and a clear path through the desert in which we find ourselves. Some of us are at home on this journey as if we were born for this purpose.

Others are on this journey but have no idea where they are going or how to get there. They wander from dry and dusty hilltop to scorching valley, never finding the thing they are searching for. Many do not even know what it is they are searching for, knowing only that they must search. They come to many oases with promises of relief from the scorching heat only to find that the promises are empty. Increasingly they wonder, Is this all there is? Can my hunger never be satisfied?

Sometimes I am hungry for something specific, something that eludes definition, but when I taste it I will know what it is I was hungry for. Until I find it, nothing satisfies; it only intensifies the undefined hunger.

All those who do not know God and his Son, Jesus Christ, are like the lost and hungry pilgrims–lost without the means to find their way or the food they are looking for. God has given us a great gift, a gift that is made available to all those who search. The lost have only to pick it up to find their way, to find the food they need. If they open it, they will know the true way, the only way through the desert they are in.

The Bible is the map they need to find their way to a right relationship with God. All they need is a pilgrim with the map to come alongside and share the map with them. What a privilege to share that meal with them! To see their joy in finding that great treasure stored up for them from the beginning of time!

Are you that pilgrim, and do you have the map?

How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty! How happy are those who can live in your house, always singing your praises! Happy are those who are strong in the Lord, who set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs, where pools of blessing collect after the rains. They will continue to grow stronger, and each of them will appear before God in Jerusalem.
Psalm 84:1-4-7
